Wax On, Wax Off

I'll tell ya what I like about the Vietnamese.

Well, at least one of them. This past weekend I helped a friend's band by producing their new album. The sessions went well and we got some good stuff on tape. The best part though, besides the free, food, booze, and bedding I received from my friend Joe and his fiance Angela, was the fact that Joe's drummer is a Vietnamese kid named Long. Long is both cool and a good drummer. Fast forward to Sunday morning when we had finished and he and I had this conversation:

Me: Hey Long, do people assume you can speak Chinese or something when they first meet you?
Long: Yea, all the time.
Me: What are you, again?
Long: Vietnamese.
Me: Nice, so can you sing?
Long: not really, why?
Me: Cause I want to record all new vocals for all the songs but in Vietnamese just like Ricky Martin and Shakira release spanish versions of their albums. We'll hit it big in the Pac Rim, wudya say?

We all had a good laugh but I was sort of serious. I mean, how many Asian people are so cool that they can make fun of themselves and not give a shit if their friends make racist jokes too? He is an astounding human being in book. I also suggested that they start every show with Long jumping out on stage with that Japanese rising sun headband and break a wooden board with his head, bow to the audience and start the show with a gong hit. He also found this as funny as I did...especially when I offered to change the name of the band to Kobrakai.

So how does explain why I haven't been around for nearly two weeks? Because I was starting work on my own little musical project...or "pro-yect" as the Mexicans would say. This project would be a rock n roll record as well. Except this one has all the makings of a CPunch article packed in it.

Bet you didn't know I've released two previous albums did you? Well, I have. Back in my college years I created some of the greatest comedic rock n roll this side of the Mississippi (because let's face it, Tenacious D is good).

Freshman year my roommate and I created two albums of acoustic comedy rock. We were aptly titled Lesbian Jumpercables. Sophomore year I pursued a solo "career" and released my first album (also all acoustic) called "Pillowbiters, Inc.". Skip ahead to senior year and another friend and I release our first album "Eat Me" under the moniker Fogallica (a combination of a mutual friend who looks like Subway douche Jared Fogle and my favorite band, Metallica) which, by the way, was a full band production. Later that year I made my second solo album titled "Hottest Thing Since Hiroshima" - another full band project.

So there you go. That was 2003. It's now 2006, nearly three years after HTSH was released. The sad thing is I don't have all that gear anymore - no drums or bass. So it's back to my roots - acoustic rock.

After reviewing several different riffs and lyrics and song titles/ideas, I settled on the following song. It's the first of a full album that will be released when it's done (I really don't know when I'll get it done). The first song to be created by CP in three years? It's called "It's Never Too Early".

I will be a little more frequent with the postings while I record this album. I only say "a little" because I am also in the process of making a major change in my (and inevitably your) life. I will divulge those details once everything is set. Bear with me.

Now, I would post a link to the song here. However, the content of the song may be slightly offensive and/or vulgar. What do I mean "may be" - it is. So if you can't wait to satiate your CPunch music thirst, send an email via that little link on the left side of the screen.

(If you're using Firefox Mozilla then click here to send me an email requesting the song.)
