Nothing Like A Hebrew National

It's fitting that Israel has gone AWOL this past week and blown the crap out of anyone within firing distance. I don't blame them at all. Now hear me out on this one. When the U.S. government decides they're going to keep you on a short leash for so many years, eventually you're going to go ballistic (no pun intended) on whoever is pissing you off. That's pretty much what's happening right now.

It really doesn't matter what the stakes are or "who started it", Israel seems to be in the middle of country on country fist fights a lot. Sometimes they deserve to be angry, sometimes they don't. However most of the time the U.S. government has kept Israel from responding to any kind of threat or provocation.

For one reason or another, many people in the middle east just plain don't like Israel. Some countries go as far as "not recognizing them as a country." I never really understood that. Not "recognizing someone as a country" is like Kevin Federline looking into a mirror and saying, "I deserve all of this." In short, it's retarded. Now sometimes Israel has real beef with countries or religious groups. Religious persecution is not exactly a nice thing and the Jews have had to deal with this for, oh, I don't know, a number of years. This latest brew-ha-ha with Lebanon has been going for a week and shows no signs of slowing down.

Now, I've been saying this for years and maybe our government is finally realizing it too - stop holding Israel's hand. I have virtually no problem with them whatsoever. For the most part they are the ones being attacked and hated and since I'm not a big fan of either (unless they deserve it) I like to give Israel the benefit of the doubt. The problem I have, though, is that we've backed them on everything and kept them from fighting for themselves for a long, long time now. Countries or terrorist groups make threats, we stand in the middle and tell them they have to fight us first. Ya know, the whole older brother syndrome is cute and all but I'm starting to get a little sick of it. Israel has been able to defend itself for many years now and we have put our balls on the chopping block for them time and time again. I don't wanna sound like a dick or nothing but, fight your own damn fights, Israel; we out.

Maybe the government finally has felt the same way. Israel's gotten into another tussle and we've decided to stay out of it so we can deal with our own problems. Granted some of our problems stem from holding Israel's hand for so many years. Maybe what the world, and more specifically, the middle east needs, is less of American intervention and a little more, "hey [insert country], do it yourself."

America's been the international police forever and we still have an obligation to help those that cannot help themselves (The jury's still out on Iraq). But Israel can more than help itself. It has one of the strongest militaries in the world (thanks to us). If you want to screw with them, go for it. They're gonna kick your ass or die trying. Once we let them handle their own business we can focus more on our own. And last time I checked, we had a lot of unfinished business in that area of the world not to mention an impending scrap with North Korea which may or may not end pretty. I pray that this defense of Israel has stopped for good. They don't need us and we don't need them. We can still be friends but friends know when to let their friends fight their own battles.
